When Emma and Connor started planning their engagement session, they had one thing in mind: green mountains. They specifically wanted Utah Mountain engagement photos that felt like spring had finally arrived, so we waited for the snow to melt and the mountains to come back to life. We picked a date, found the perfect location, and felt pretty good about the plan, until the weather had other ideas. The morning of their session was cold, rainy, and not exactly what most people picture for spring engagement photos. But with Connor’s schedule as a pilot constantly changing, we decided to take the chance and head into the mountains anyway. Looking back, I’m so glad we did!

Utah Mountain Engagement Photos That Almost Didn’t Happen
When we arrived, the mountains were covered in low clouds and surrounded by the deepest shades of green. It felt quiet, moody, and honestly pretty beautiful despite the weather forecast. We expected some rain and figured we’d make the best of it. A lot of couples worry that cloudy or rainy weather will ruin their photos, but mountain weather is unpredictable. Sometimes the days that look less than ideal on paper end up creating the most memorable experiences. This session was a perfect example of that.

The Snowfall Nobody Expected
About halfway through the session, the rain turned into snow. Not a few light flurries, either. Huge snowflakes started falling all around us, covering Emma’s hair and dress and sticking to Connor’s shirt. It was completely unexpected, especially considering we had planned this session around spring weather. Instead of getting frustrated or calling it quits, they leaned into it. They laughed through it, walked hand-in-hand through the snow, and treated it like part of the adventure. Some of my favorite moments from the entire session happened during those few minutes when none of us knew exactly what the weather was doing.

Why Flexibility Creates the Best Experience
One of the biggest things I tell couples is that great photos aren’t created by perfect conditions. They’re created when you’re willing to be present and enjoy the experience, no matter what the day looks like. Emma and Connor originally wanted green mountains, and they got them. They just happened to get an unexpected snowstorm, too. The combination of the lush spring landscape, the gloomy skies, and the falling snow created something neither of us could have planned. The photos feel playful, genuine, and completely unique to their story. It’s a reminder that sometimes the moments you never planned for end up becoming your favorite part of the day.
