There’s something about taking photos somewhere you’re already excited to be that makes the whole experience feel different. Estelle and Younes’ couples session in Cefalù Italy was exactly that, slow, playful, a little adventurous, and completely centered around the two of them. We wandered through this gorgeous property overlooking the Mediterranean, ran around the gardens, climbed down toward the water, and gave them plenty of space to just be together. The whole session felt less like stopping your trip to take photos and more like documenting a really good afternoon in Italy.

A Couples Session in Cefalù Italy That Felt Like Them
One of my favorite things about this session was how relaxed Estelle and Younes were with each other. They weren’t worried about being perfectly posed or doing something for the camera every second. They danced on the stairs, ran barefoot through the grass, climbed around the rocks, and eventually ended up lying in the yard eating oranges together, which honestly says so much more about them than a bunch of perfectly posed photos ever could.
And Cefalù was such a beautiful backdrop without needing to become the entire point of the session. Between the palms, terracotta, stone, cliffs, and that blue Mediterranean water in the distance, there was something interesting everywhere we turned. Their simple, neutral outfits worked so well with everything around us too, which let the location add to the photos without taking attention away from the two of them!

How to Make Your Photography Session Feel Like You
I think one of the biggest misconceptions about couples photos is that you need to show up knowing exactly what to do. You really don’t. The best thing you can bring to your session is your actual relationship, how you naturally interact, what makes you laugh, whether you’re more playful and chaotic or quiet and affectionate. My job is to pay attention to that and give you enough direction that you never feel like you’re standing there wondering what to do with your hands.
It also helps to build the session around things that genuinely sound fun to you. Maybe that means exploring somewhere new, walking through the city, grabbing food together, spending time by the water, or slowing everything down at the place you’re staying. Estelle and Younes didn’t need an elaborate plan to make these photos interesting. They had an incredible setting, yes, but what really made the session work was giving themselves permission to move around, play, and enjoy being there together.

Why I Love Destination Couples Sessions
A couples session in Cefalù Italy doesn’t have to be reserved for an engagement or some huge milestone. If you’re already traveling somewhere incredible together, that alone can be a pretty good reason to document it. There’s something really special about having photos that remind you not only of what a place looked like, but what this particular season of your life together actually felt like.
And this is exactly why I want to photograph more destination sessions and weddings like this. I love getting to experience a place alongside my couples and creating something that feels connected to where we are without turning the entire experience into a photoshoot. Cefalù gave us the warm textures, coastal views, lush gardens, and Mediterranean atmosphere, while Estelle and Younes brought everything that made these photos feel like theirs.
